What are neuromodulators?

Neuromodulators are injectable treatments that smooth fine lines and wrinkles. They target the muscles beneath the skin, restricting their movement to relax existing wrinkles and slow the formation of new lines. The most popular and well-known neuromodulator is Botox®, but other brands include Dysport®, Xeomin®, and Jeuveau®.

When injected into a specific muscle, neuromodulators prevent it from moving. This temporary paralyzation allows the skin on top to relax, causing it to soften. As a result, your skin may appear smoother and younger.

How are neuromodulators different from dermal fillers?

Neuromodulators are effective at treating dynamic wrinkles, which form from repeated muscle movement. They tend to form in the upper one-third of the face. Common types of dynamic wrinkles include:

  • Forehead lines
  • Glabellar lines
  • Crow’s feet
  • Bunny lines
  • Marionette lines

Dermal fillers primarily target static wrinkles, which develop from gradual volume loss in the skin. A dermal filler can replace lost volume to plump up the skin and treat nasolabial folds, hollow cheeks and temples, and poor jawline definition. Fillers can also enhance thinning lips.

Do neuromodulators hurt?

Neuromodulators typically aren’t painful, but Betsy can apply a topical numbing cream before the treatment to ensure your comfort. Injections only take a few minutes and most clients experience little to no discomfort during the procedure.

However, some individuals may experience mild bruising or swelling at the injection site, which typically resolves within a few days.

How long do neuromodulators last?

Most neuromodulators last 3-4 months. However, some newer neuromodulators have shown improvements that last 6-9 months. How long your results last typically depend on your metabolism, activity level, and genetics.

Because neuromodulators are fast and minimally invasive, you can combine them with other aesthetic treatments. Many people choose neuromodulators and fillers for complete facial rejuvenation, but Blush and Bloom MedSpa also offers photofacials, chemical peels, and other nonsurgical aesthetic treatments to enhance your appearance.

Are neuromodulators safe?

Neuromodulators are safe when performed by a qualified medical professional. As an experienced registered nurse, Betsy has the necessary training and qualifications to ensure safe, effective results.
